Atlético Madrid is one of Spain’s most prestigious football clubs and plays its home matches at the world-class Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium.
The club sought to transform its stadium into a magical winter destination during the off-season, creating a unique attraction capable of drawing thousands of visitors every day.
The challenge

The scale of this project was extraordinary. NAPAPIRI was tasked with building one of the largest temporary ice rinks ever installed in Europe, directly inside a modern football stadium.
Several technical challenges had to be overcome:
- protecting the existing infrastructure and football pitch;
- maintaining consistent ice quality over an enormous 6,000 m² surface;
- ensuring sufficient refrigeration capacity despite heavy visitor traffic;
- managing installation and logistics within strict time constraints;
- delivering a reliable and safe experience for thousands of visitors.

Using modular cooling mats and highly efficient chiller units, the entire ice rink could be installed rapidly while guaranteeing perfect ice conditions.

A tailor-made 6,000 m² real ice rink
NAPAPIRI supplied a fully customized temporary ice rink extending around the football field in the shape of a giant ice ring. The project included:
- a 6,000 m² real ice surface;
- high-capacity refrigeration technology;
- modular cooling systems;
- complete technical infrastructure;
- professional perimeter systems;
- approximately 3,000 pairs of rental skates.
The installation was designed to accommodate exceptional visitor volumes while maintaining premium ice quality throughout the event.
