NHL sponsors Düsseldorf’s Kö on Ice ice rink: skating on the Königsallee until 10 January 2027
News — 6 November 2026
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Kö on Ice, the seasonal ice rink on Düsseldorf’s Königsallee, have announced a partnership for the 2026-27 winter season: the NHL sponsors the rink, which opens today, 6 November 2026, with skating through 10 January 2027, kicking off the city’s hockey celebration ahead of the NHL Global Series Germany in December.
Skating in the heart of Düsseldorf
Kö on Ice, located at Corneliusplatz at the northern end of the Königsallee, features multiple skating surfaces and the spacious Füchschen Alm chalet as its central gathering place. According to the NHL, the venue attracts millions of visitors from Germany and abroad every year, and the partnership lets the league connect with more than one million people during the festive season.
A Christmas tree made of 264 hockey sticks
Highlights include a five-metre-tall Christmas tree built from 264 used hockey sticks and topped by a large illuminated NHL logo, plus the NHL Holiday Card Factory and the NHL Memory Studio. During NHL Global Series Germany week — the Ottawa Senators vs Chicago Blackhawks games on 18 and 20 December at the PSD Bank Dome — the Stanley Cup will appear at the rink and the German NHL podcast “Schlagschuss” will be recorded live there.
The ice behind the show
A seasonal rink welcoming millions of visitors over ten weeks in the middle of a city street demands a refrigeration plant engineered to the last detail and continuous ice maintenance. It is the same standard Napapiri has applied since 1993 to every real-ice skating rink it designs, manufactures, rents and sells — mobile and permanent — for event organisers, municipalities and sports and leisure facilities worldwide.
